🏆 Golden rules — try these FIRST

Install

"Windows protected your PC" blocked the installer
Click More info → Run anyway. The app isn't code-signed (certificates cost money) — safe if you got it from frogg's official links.
Antivirus deleted the installer
Restore it from quarantine, then add an exclusion: Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Exclusions → add folder %localappdata%\Programs\Nova Client. Launchers look suspicious to antivirus; Nova is clean.
Installer freezes / fails
Delete %localappdata%\Programs\Nova Client, restart PC, run Setup again as administrator.

Launcher

Nova won't open at all
Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) → end tasks named Nova Client and javaw → reopen. Still dead? Delete %localappdata%\NovaClient\cache and try again.
White screen inside launcher
Reopen Nova once. Keeps happening → update your GPU driver (NVIDIA/AMD/Intel website or Windows Update).

Accounts

Microsoft login is blank or spins forever
Fully close + reopen Nova and retry. Sync your system clock (Settings → Time). If Microsoft rate-limits you, wait 10 minutes.
"Sign-in failed"
Log into minecraft.net in a browser first to confirm the account works, then log out and back in inside Nova's account screen.

In-game crashes

Game closes instantly / exit code 1
Open %localappdata%\NovaClient\instances\<instance>\logs\latest.log — bottom lines tell all.
• Line mentions Mixin / NoClassDefFoundError → delete that mod from Mods tab
• OutOfMemoryError → enable More RAM toggle before Play
Nova's Doctor also auto-deletes broken mods on next launch — just press Play again.
ZipException about a mod jar
Auto-fixed since v1.11 — Doctor re-downloads corrupt mods automatically. Manual way if needed: remove the mod, re-add it.
Download stuck at some %
Press Play again to resume. Frozen hard? Delete %localappdata%\NovaClient\cache\objects and retry.

Server hosting

Friends can't join my server
Router must allow the port: enable UPnP in router settings, or forward the TCP port shown in the Host tab manually. Share your public IP + port with friends.
"Address already in use"
An old java process holds the port: Task Manager → end all java tasks → start server again.

Skins & images

Skin upload does nothing
Use a PNG under 5 MB. The file dialog can open behind the window — check your taskbar.
My custom image isn't in-game
Generate the pack while the RIGHT instance is selected (the one you actually play). In game check Options → Resource Packs → "custom-image-pack" enabled. Paintings only change when newly placed.

Discord presence

Status not showing on my profile
1) Discord desktop app open? 2) Discord Settings → Activity Privacy → Share detected activity ON 3) Quit Discord fully (tray icon → Quit) and reopen both apps.

Performance

Low FPS
Fast Flags ON in Home tab + install Sodium and Lithium from Mods tab. In game: render distance 8, graphics fast.

Last resorts

Nothing works — nuclear options
In order:
1. Delete %localappdata%\NovaClient\java → relaunch (re-extracts bundled Java)
2. Delete %localappdata%\NovaClient\cache
3. Remove just the problem instance
4. Uninstall + reinstall Nova (worlds are safe)
5. Delete whole %localappdata%\NovaClient folder — ⚠️ exports your worlds first!
